History of QuickContractors.com

Trevor Bouchard, CEO of QuickContractors.com
Dear Home Owners,

My name is Trevor Bouchard, President and Founder of QuickContractors.com. During my time at McMaster University in Hamilton, I had the privilege of running a window cleaning franchise in Cambridge, Ontario. I frequently ran into customers who wanted me to recommend reliable contractors for a variety of different projects. I was stunned to discover that many of these people had very little trust in the contractors advertised elsewhere. I heard first and second hand horror stories about contractors who would start a job, get paid, and then close their doors and never are heard from again. People with no moral fiber, no pride in what they do.

Hearing these stories infuriated me, not only were these individuals ruining the lives of people in my community, but they were ruining my reputation before I even got to the door. Because I was a contractor, I got lumped into the same category as these other people and it took a lot of work to gain the trust of my customers before they gave me the honour to work on their property.

However, I soon discovered there were other contractors like myself: good people with the desire to do good work on time and on budget. I gained hope that with their help, we could eliminate the bad contractors from the workplace and ensure that all people get the job they want at a fair price.

My Goal

To bring together a high-tech and high quality solution to ensure homeowners will be able to undertake their project with peace of mind with the use of our service!

Where the Problem Starts

There are two major reasons why people get taken advantage of by bad contractors. First off, people rarely have any idea what it takes for a job to be completed. Home renovation, while it is considered blue collar work, is in fact extremely complicated, with reliable individuals needing years to master their trade. Smooth talking contractors are able to use their knowledge to intimidate customers into making decisions that are not in their best interest, taking advantage of the customer’s trust.

Secondly, the system regulating contractors is weak. Unfortunately, the government can only police what they are notified about through permit applications. The contracting organizations, unlike other professional organizations, do a poor job of policing their members. Finally, if something does go intentionally, or unintentionally wrong, methods for recovering lost funds are complicated, tiresome, and most importantly, very expensive without a great chance of success. As a result, it is very easy for an individual to enter the contracting industry and take advantage of the system.

The QuickContractors.com Service

We concede that we cannot change the system from the ground up. We can only work within the framework that exists and do the best with what resources we have. We have devised a three-pronged strategy to combat the unethical contractors:
  1. Consumer Education
  2. Personal Guidance
  3. Strict Standards for our Affiliate Contractors

Consumer Education

We will strive to inform everyone about their rights and responsibilities, showing them how to pick a good contractor and avoid money pitfalls that arise in any building project. We will also have trusted experts in every field of home renovations write articles to further your knowledge of how your home works and how to save money through regular maintenance that you can easily do yourself.

Strict Standards for our Affiliate Contractors

Naturally, to run a program like this costs a lot of money. However, you will never pay a cent for the use of our service. We earn our living by advertising legitimate, licensed and insured contractors on our website. We will not advertise anybody who is willing to pay, like some of our “brightly coloured” competitors. Every contractor on our site must fulfill the following criteria:
  1. Show proof of license and insurance
  2. Have a GST number, insuring that they are running a legitimate business
  3. Be in business for at least 3 years without outstanding complaints logged with the government
  4. Pass a strict standardized reference check
So all we ask is that if you like our service and want to see it keep running, that you use our contractors. We promise that they are the best of the best, and that they have your best interest at heart!

Thank you for choosing QuickContractor.com and good luck with your project!
